Who We Are

Throughout the 1960's and 1970's can suppliers followed a business model that leveraged can sales with canning equipment and service. Therefore they provided equipment and service cheaply in exchange for long term can purchasing contracts. This business model was slowly being phased out in the 1980's. ABC Lid Machine Company began in 1981 to fill the growing gap in the can seaming service market. Although, not officially incorporated until 1987, ABC Lid built a reputation as experts in the can seaming and packaging industry. This expertise brought them to Thailand in 1992 through a NSF technology transfer initiative. There Bob, Jr and Bob, Sr taught classes on seam inspection and vacuum packaging.

In the mid to late ninteen nineties, Bob, Jr. began research that utilized the new technology of servo motors, stepper motors and programmable logical controls to allow greater flexible, higher speeds, less-downtime and more remote diagnosing of seaming equipment. He also began researching a new process utilizing liquid nitrogen such that companies using composite cans could also take advantage of the cost savings of liquid nitrogen. (The beverage industry had already been using liquid nitrogen but due to many technical issues with the machinery and de-gassing time, those industries using composite cans could not yet get consistently low-oxygen using liquid nitrogen. We solved this problem and opened the snack food industry to liquid nitrogen use.

This research and subsequent patents spawned ABC Seamer Technologies, Inc. in 1997. However, the lack of trained individuals who could utilize this technology, made it apparent that we would need to have a training/demonstration facility. So in 1999 we moved the companies from Aston, Pa to an 80,000 square foot building in Chester, PA.

In 2000, ABC Stewardship purchased the building and became our real estate development arm.
